Artist's Update
December 28, 2010
At this time I am enjoying a very quiet professional period. I am producing new work as is evident on the recent work page of this site, but no upcoming exhibitions at this point. My last exhibition was in the fall of 2009 at the Grimsby Public Art Gallery. The commercial side of my exhibiting career is very quiet now also. My dealers seem a little shy of the new paintings. This is not necessarily a bad thing at this point – the recession has taken a bite out of my sales, and if the interest isn’t there now I will be happy to wait for better economic conditions.
For the most part I enjoy these times of isolation. One can concentrate on developing new work and take time to creatively run down blind alleys. I’m in my late mid-career and public focus has turned to younger artists. This is not an unusual situation for artist of my age and can be both a curse and a blessing. So....I sit happily in my studio producing new work and clarifying/ adjusting my thoughts on the nature of art making. I think a lot about painting and how relevant it is in the current curatorial environment.
I am sure something will be on the horizon soon enough. I certainly have enough new work to do a painting exhibition and someone is bound to be interested. Due to a new soft-ware application I can now edit this long suffering web-site myself. I will keep you posted.
